Womanist Musings: Gay, White and Male Still Equals Privileged (via themmases)
What say you, readers? My POC audience, my LGBT audience, my white male audience?

This is something I’ve been thinking about lately. The whole idea that even I’ve found myself beholden to, especially in my younger days, that being intelligent requires embracing the culture of suburban white America. The idea that being a feminist requires one to adhere to traditionally-masculine standards and abandoning the traditionally-feminine, even if that’s who that particular woman is and what she enjoys. Even in our struggles for equality, we’ve held those to whom we want to be considered equal as our superiors, and we’ll never be equal if we keep that up.
